Is an Arm Lift Right for You?
Surgeons usually look at a few things before suggesting an arm lift. Tap each point to read more.
This is general information, not a medical decision. Only a licensed plastic surgeon can decide if an arm lift is right for you, after a full assessment.
Types of Arm Lift
Surgeons use different lengths of incision depending on where the loose skin is. Choose a type to see where the scar usually sits.
Mini arm lift
- Who it may suit
- Mild loose skin, mostly close to the armpit.
- Where the scar usually sits
- A short scar hidden in the armpit.
- Recovery in general
- Usually the shortest recovery of the three.
Standard arm lift
- Who it may suit
- Loose skin along most of the upper arm.
- Where the scar usually sits
- Along the inner upper arm, from the armpit towards the elbow.
- Recovery in general
- Some weeks of arm care and no heavy lifting, as your surgeon advises.
Extended arm lift
- Who it may suit
- Loose skin on the upper arm that continues onto the side of the chest, often after major weight loss.
- Where the scar usually sits
- Along the inner arm and down the side of the chest.
- Recovery in general
- Usually the longest of the three, with extra care for the chest area.
Simple illustration only. Your surgeon decides which technique is right for you after an examination, and explains the scar and recovery in detail.

Arm Lift FAQs
Tap a question to read the answer.
Where is the surgery done?
Only in a licensed hospital or surgical centre, by a licensed plastic surgeon. We never do surgery at home. Our home visits cover the consultation, checks before surgery and care during recovery.
Will there be a scar?
Yes. An arm lift always leaves a scar, usually along the inner upper arm and sometimes into the armpit. Scars tend to fade and flatten over many months, but they do not disappear. Your surgeon will show you where yours is likely to be.
How long is the recovery?
It is different for everyone. Most people rest for the first days, wear a compression garment for some weeks and slowly return to normal activity. Your surgeon will give you your own recovery plan.
Is an arm lift a weight loss treatment?
No. An arm lift removes loose skin and some fat to reshape the upper arm. It works best when your weight has been steady for some time. It is not a way to lose weight.
What are the risks?
Every surgery has risks. For an arm lift they include swelling, bruising, infection, fluid build-up, numbness, slow wound healing, uneven results and thick scars. Your surgeon will explain your own risks before you agree to surgery.
Do I need a compression garment?
Usually yes, as your surgeon advises. It helps control swelling and supports the arms while they heal. During home visits we can check the fit and show you how to put it on and take it off.
What happens during a home visit?
A doctor visits you at home to talk through your goals, check your general health and collect samples if your surgeon asks for them. After surgery we check your wound, dressing and compression garment.
When should I get urgent help?
Go to emergency care straight away for chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, heavy bleeding, a high fever with spreading redness, or sudden painful swelling of the arm. A home visit is not for emergencies.
How do I book?
Use the Book a Consultation button and share your area and a time that suits you. We confirm the visit and the price with you first, then help arrange your surgeon appointment if you decide to go ahead.
