Bone and Joint Care at Home
Small daily habits that protect your joints and lower the chance of falls.
Keep moving gently every day
Short walks and light movement help keep joints flexible. Pace yourself and rest when you need to.
Use support when lifting
Bend your knees, keep loads close to your body and ask for help with heavy items.
Make your home safe from falls
Clear loose rugs and cables, add good lighting and use grab rails where they help.
Get enough calcium and vitamin D
Ask your doctor whether you need a test or a supplement. Food and some daylight both play a part.
Rest and ice a fresh minor sprain
Use ice wrapped in a cloth for short periods, rest and raise the limb, then move gently as pain allows.
Wear supportive footwear
Shoes with good grip and support help your knees, hips and back, and lower the chance of slips.
This is general guidance. Always follow your own doctor's advice, especially if you have a medical condition or recent injury.
